G8MS-H30 Relays

Postby WingAdmin » Wed Apr 19, 2017 4:45 pm

I was getting low in stock on the GL1500 G8MS-H30 relays that I have in the online store here, so I contacted my wholesale distributor to order another batch (I have to buy several hundred of them at a time) - and they told me that they don't have any more, and haven't been able to get more.

I have since been contacting many different distributors all over the world looking to purchase more relays - and while several claim to carry it, nobody seems to have any, and they aren't able to order more of them, claiming that Omron is out of them.

I sure hope this doesn't mean that Omron has discontinued them - because we have hungry GL1500's that continue to go through them at a prodigious rate! I have reached out to Omron, but as yet have not received a response.

For the meantime, I've flagged the relays as out of stock on the store page. I'll let everyone know if/when I have an update.

Well I got my answer from Omron today: they are no longer selling this relay to anyone except OEM - which means Honda. So unless I find a cache of them held by a distributor somewhere, it looks like this is going to be the end of the cheap GL1500 relays. What a shame!

I guess it's time to research for an alternative.
I hate having only one option.
It probably will look like the cockpit of the space shuttle with all the bat handle switches replacing the relays tho.
and all those little stick on labels under each one...

That's really bad news. Why would Omron care who they sell them to as long as their selling them? Why do we run through them the way we do?

Thanks
Frank

My '85 LTD has a considerable number of relays as well. Would have liked Honda to use one specific relay instead of a multitude of different ones depending on the circuit. Have been pondering this as well as looking at the various circuits. I would think that any relay such as the automotive ones we are using to power/control add-on circuitry such as new higher powered horns would work for most of the application that only require a four pin relay considering the circuit already has a fuse sized to protect the circuit. These automotive relays are about the same size but would require some wiring to be done. This may be an alternative to the Omron relays, maybe not as nice an installation, but should be workable.

I have purchased a couple of relays from Honda and the price is quite steep comparatively.

Just a few thoughts.

Cheers

Erdeniz, is that a direct plug in replacement?

Yes it is exactly the same in shape and amperage.
Note that only the blue one (position light relay) in the relay box is diffent from the other relays there.

Good to know. Since I have a Hyundai (regret that decision) I may have to rob from it if required.

Also, I opened one of them to compare with the OEM, and saw that everything inside was exactly the same.
