Exhaust Pipe Protector Flaps

Postby SteveKon » Thu Sep 16, 2010 9:10 am

Just recently bought my first Goldwing, 1993 GL1500 SE. As I learn and understand the bikes capabilities and features, the one item that I haven’t been able to figure out is the purpose of the flaps on the exhaust pipe protector covers.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and insights.
Steve

not sure what exactly you mean by the flaps. Can you give us a pic or a more detailed description of the flap and its exact location

It serves two purposes:

1. Lets out hot air vented from around the exhaust pipes to keep your feet warm on cold days

2. Lets in mice to build their winter homes when you forget to close them

Mine doesn't have these so I would have been guessing but it would have been along the lines of heating vents. You would think that the Uk models with our climate would ahve had something like this fitted or was it an optional extra.

I think that is an SE option only.
