Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
You do mention that it "seems" to be getting no spark...Can you attach a spare spark plugs to one of the wires and verify this.
Hate to chase you down the wrong rabbit hole.
It does take a full second of cranking to generate a spark. The delay time is normal.

I've checked it a couple of times, but give it another shot.

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
Checked spark at plug again. Nothing. Got the new fuel pump put in and doesn't engage when I turn the ignition switch on. pump doesn't engage when cranking, either. Jumped power straight to the terminal and the pump works, then. I've got the BAS bypassed as shown in previous post. Battery is weak, been putting the charger in it to keep it charged, but I've hooked another battery to it with jumper cables now, too.

I also think the manual I downloaded from this site for my 92 is a 94 manual. How much of a difference is that going to make?

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
These are from a 93.wiring should be the same.
With no fuel pump pre-cycle operation,I assume the ignition module is not working. Thus no spark either to keep it running.
Do verify that if you unplug the module and apply 12 volts to the pump wire it actually does operate the pump.Do not test this at the gas tank..right at the module black/blue wire.
Absolutely do verify that there is 12 volts between the green wire and black/white wire.
Do not use any test points other that the wires at the ignition module plug with the module attached.
Do also verify that the connections in the plug are clean and free of corrosion.Tug a little on those wires to be sure there not loose fitting or just hanging there.
If your confident the module is getting the correct voltage and will not cycle the pump,it's time to replace the module.
A initially defective pump may have damaged the ignition module. Understand that I suggest this only by your testing and results..I absolutely cannot guarantee success.. I'm not there to do hands on service. My judgment is based on a module with correct voltages and does not operate as expected. The pre-cycle of the pump.

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
There are minor differences at the ignition circuit between 91-92 and 93-2000, mainly on the fuses and the relays, and some connectors.
The red dots indicate the differences from the previous diagram.

For a manual, are the 91-92 identical?

When compared the electrical system, 99% they are the same, a minor change in a connector at the fuel system.

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
She fired up! I'm thinking was a loose connection at the module.
Now, may not have been correct fuel pump to install. Had fuel running all over..... unless something is loose or disconnected..

Glad to hear it fired up!! Good job , , ,
Just a comment: My '91 doesn't have the Fuel Pump "prime" either, , , I know the '88-'89's do, , but maybe the later models don't do it. , , , ,IF IT RUNS, LET 'ER GO. . .
Not correct fuel pump? Which one did you put in?

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
I thought that the earlier models that had a fuel pump relay were the ones that did the 2-3 second fuel pump run to prime the system. I had a 94 model and now a 2000 and neither of them run the pump at turn on.

OK, that pump is said to put out 15gph @ 2.5 psi which is pretty close to the OEM specs. Check all the hose connections again and tighten any loose ones. Look closely at the hoses for any cracks or splitting. You got the hard part done, it should be a breeze from here on out. Enjoy the ride

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
The fuel pump does not run at Key On,
it runs for about 3 seconds when you push the starter button.
If the engine starts, it turns on again and stays on.
If the engine does not start, then it turns off...

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump
She runs and moves... New battery in her now and fires right up! I planned on pulling carb apart and give it a good cleaning once I got her running, but, in the mean time, do you guys suggest running Seafoam in the fuel on these bikes? I've heard varying opinions. I'm putting Premium fuel in it, no ethanol. The couple of gallons of fuel I put in I did put a couple oz of Seafoam in and from day one of getting it to start to now, it does seem to be running smoother. Haven't really ridden her more than a few blocks, just mainly letting her idle for intervals.

GOOD JOB!!! Its good to hear that she's up and running so your hard work has paid off, , , ,
Seafoam is your friend when it comes to getting these beasts up and running well. Mixed 1.5-2.0 oz per gallon of gas will help with the fuel lines and combustion chambers. You might also find that once you get her out on the road, you will want to add some to your crankcase to help loosen any gunk accumulated down there.
Good to have you out on the road again. Be safe and keep the rubber side down.
