what's the reason for this?

Post by hap2 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 7:43 pm

When the 1500 sits for a few days, it starts right up again no problem, but then when I squeeze the clutch lever & put it in 1st, it goes in good, but doesn't release the clutch slowly & I have to stall it to get it back into neutral. It does this for a few times & then with each time, the clutch seems to release better after each time. It never was that way before. Any ideas?

Thanx

Most likely the dot4 in the clutch hasn't been changed regularly as it should, yearly. And in being thus, the master cylinder may have dark grey to redish brown gunk instead of clear dot4 fluid, the gunk travels into the lowest part of the system, the slave cylinder, which may have gunk in the seal area and has been leaking, first into the crankcase and eventually it will leak out the slave onto the lower back of the rear engine case and onto the floor. If this is the case you'll need to rebuild the slave cylinder and possibly the master cylinder, then flush the system and bleed the air out to get the clutch working properly. Then also you'll need to do an engine flush to clear out the dot4 in the oil and on the clutch discs as these wings have a wet clutch.

Newday777:

About how many hrs for a shop to do all that? (I'm hoping it's just low as changed & flushed both the clutch & the brake April 3 / 15. And it works fine after a few times. And it's not leaking.

Before going full tilt, I'd probably bleed and flush the system again, as you did in 2015. It's about due, and may clear up your issue before rebuilding everything.

I could swear I replied here yesterday.
Are posts disappearing?
OOOh I did, in "clutch problems" thread.
Should only ask in one thread, less confusion. Ask in PM if necessary.

Bleed the clutch, First suck the brake fluid out of the master cylinder and check to see if the return hole in the bottom is plugged. There may be a small silver cover over the hole. Use piece of wire to clean the hole.and then clean the crud from the bottom. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, attracts water, and this mixes with the fluid and lays on the bottom.
