Battery relocate to trunk??

Post by chads920 » Fri Dec 01, 2017 11:01 pm

a good friend replaced and relocated his battery to his trunk. I thought it odd but it made some sense as he had changed his alternator to a 95 amp and his battery to an AGM- I'm wondering what size 12V would best work with this arrangement, should you stick with the MC size for the Wing or go to a garden tractor type\size and what other mods would be necessary such as cable size and etc.

I think you are just asking for headaches by relocating your battery to the trunk.

What would someone gain by moving the battery?
I don't understand why anyone would want to move it.

The designated spot for the battery should be just fine.
There is a nice little well for it to fit in, it is close to the center of balance.
Putting the battery in the trunk takes away needed luggage space.
Extending and routing new positive and negative cables would be a bit of a nightmare.

Really sorry but I do not see any wisdom in making that modification.

Why would you want to alter the location of that dead weight from the lower area to a higher area?
Too many negative effects on handling which can also be a safety thing!

#1,
the size of the alternator has zilch to do with the need for the battery size.
he has an AGM and that is all he needs.

#2,
placing it in the saddle bag, or the trunk is just downright dangerous, and will eventually break the plastics. there is no way to support that kind of load in the saddle bags/trunk... and that is a concentrated load, in one small spot.

what they said plus he will have to cut a hole in the trunk to run the battery cables through, I'm not for cutting holes in my trunk or saddlebags

All good points, thanks for the input, now can any of you help me find a CB to radio harness so I can complete my upgrade of my 93 1500A. Also where should the fader control be located - currently hidden under plastic.

Me thinks he is speaking of a trike. I would consider the same especially with the Bunkhouse camper.

Do a search on ebay or find a motorcycle dismantler. Here is one listing I found. Just need to do a little shopping around.

Thanks, I purchased my new to me CB through the online sellers but I was mistaken when I assumed, I know, that it would come with a harness. I've contacted many sellers and Honda shops etc but .... I'm still looking. I'm now considering finding pin type connectors of the right size possibly through dismanteling "other" connectors and building a harness. I like to have a factory one but I think the light is fading

AZgl1800, thanks for the info I checked out the 'site' and it looks good . Once I get my harness (its being shipped today, I spoke to the seller this morning) Im going directly to the CB shop at the truck stop to get my unit tuned. don't want to fry the radio right...
