funny noise when cold

i have a 1995 1500, when i start it up i hear like a whirring noise that seems to go away once it warms up. it has ben doing it for a while even in summer temps. it runs great milage seems ok. its almost like the choke is full on but its not. any thoughts

What oil are you using, and have you checked the level?

i am using 10/40 synthetic. the oil level is good.

I had something similar when I had a 1500 and I believe that the oil simply drains down and it is the sound of the pump 'sucking up' the oil and circulating it. I found that I never did have any problems in the 6yrs of owning the bike so never worried.
