Can you remove pinstripes and not destroy the under finish?

I have heard it said that the pin stripping can be removed with Easy Off oven cleaner. But, when you remove the pin stripes, the original paint under the pin stripes will be darker than the paint around it because the pigment that has been exposed to the sunlight will have faded. The "shadow" of the pin stripping that has been removed will be there as a testament to what had been there.

Yes, you are right, the only thing I don't like about cycle is the pinstriping.
I should just shut up and pay the man!

Nice bike. Have to admit I am the hypocrit when it comes to custom pinstriped/muraled bikes. I can appreciate people wanting to make the bike there own. And the airbrushed mural scenes are fun to look at. But I wouldn't want that on my own bike I dont think.

Would say the shadow would depend on how long its been customized. I've heard that it can etch the clearcoat as well. And have heard that that can be buffed out sometimes.

I had our names painted on the trunk of my GL1200 that I once had. They had been on there for several years. When I sold the bike I took a rag and put a small amount of lacquer thinner on it and wiped the letters. They just came off instantly with very little rubbing. Then I put some polish over the whole thing and you couldn't tell it was ever there. The bike was always kept in a shop though when it was not being ridden so it was not out in the sun. That could be why there were no ghost letters there after I took the painted on letters off.

I really like that Crayola crayon color.
I live 100 miles from the location of the cycle, but come spring I will try both ideas as inconspicuously as posable
It has been kept in the shed.
