Well I came across this little how too gem - on youtube - So I thought I pass it on in the best spirit of the site to help fellow wingers who like myself may find this task more than scary to say the least ... !!! hope this may help others too !!..

Getting them out is not that bad, once you get there, it's putting them back in and getting those coolant hoses connected that is a bear.
On your 89, at the back of the air cleaner where the drain hoses connect there are 2 screws you can take out and leave the vent apparatus in place. Also you can lift up the carbs to get to the cables much easier and unbolt the cruise actuator to give you some slack to get the cable for it off rather than fight them in a tight place like he does.

Hi dave !! thanks for your reply and input there too !! - " bet you don't have a pic of what you were describing there !! - do you by any small chance ??? - please ??? :( :( :( :( :( :D :D :D :D all help most welcome too - thank you !!

When I get the buggers out I still have to strip them down and re-jet them too - to get rid of the dreaded hesitation problem as well my wing is getting 20YR shake down from the ground up wards - I done all the main jobs - rebuilt the brake lines - replaced all the fluids everywhere and fitted new seals and bearings too !! .. hell its even got a new exhaust system too !! and the hacked wiring has been replaced also too !! ..
