Of course, the ultimate fix is to install an aftermarket, high-output alternator (LActrical 95-amp, for example, but there are others too) & an AGM battery. Then, you can have as many farkles, lights, heated gear etc. as you like, and never have to worry about starting and charging...it's easy to do (I found it was less work than changing the air filter!), and really not expensive
I've been down this road before, and there ain't no free lunches. I put a brand new OEM alternator in my '99 last year because the only "replacements" I could find other than a $490.00 CompuFire (and my googlefu is freaking awesome) were cheap remanufactured parts, and NOT ONE of these alternators puts out more than 90 AMPS @12 volts. The '"95 Amp LACritical" is nothing more than a Saturn alternator with a Goldwing mounting plate.

RareElectrical alternator: https://jet.com/product/detail/ab64f8c5 ... 4sQAvD_BwE Notice the rust on the drive coupling...

"New" RareElectrical alternator: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BVZXTI/?tag=goldwingdocs-20 ... rd_w=cEOzN

Isn't it strange that the "New," and the "Remanufactured" parts are very close in price? Hmmmmm

And Gee Whillikers, would you look at that? Even the vaunted CompuFire is only rated for 90 Amps..

So since we're comparing apples to oranges, what about warranties? I'd imagine that CompuFire has a pretty good one, and I know my local dealer has a good one(I've been dealing with him for going on 12 years now), but what about LACritical (which appears to a California based remanufacturer/retail chain) and RareElectrical?

If Y'All are willing to risk getting stranded after a year or less (http://www.motorcycleforum.com/100-revi ... ator.html ), then by all means have at it.

^^^Yep! They also last a lot longer than wet cell batteries, and don't leak if you tip them over. Actually, you can shoot holes in one, and it still won't leak - just an added safety feature.

I don't know about the Lactrical, but I know the Compufire uses the alternator from a 99 Saturn S-series. Perhaps the Lactrical uses the same? You need to remove the pully/vanes and front off the alternator, and replace them with the Compufire parts.

It certainly sounds like it. If I have the money, I'll be hitting the junk yard this week and find out.
