Fork spring cap removal

Is it necessary to have a compression tool to remove fork caps on bike with standard, not progressive springs ?

OEM springs are very easy to do and no special tools needed.

Just make sure you have a jack under the bike before you remove the cap not. Don't ask me how I know :|
