I recently added a relay to control my aftermarket/kludged fuel pump installation after the remote switch I had originally installed failed. I just went into O'Reilly and picked up an automotive 12V/30A relay and wired the control side to the accessory fuse block, and the contact feed straight from the battery. My bike has a blown out control transistor in the ECU so this was just a way to turn the pump on and off with the key without needing to do a lot of work. I located the relay in a small space under the seat, made sure the terminals were sealed well, and secured it with zip ties. It probably took 15 minutes total to do it. There are probably multiple better ways to do it, but it's been working for a couple of months now with no issues for me.

Eventually I really should replace the fuel pump I installed while on a trip (it is a high pressure pump instead of a low pressure pump; too much being in a hurry and not enough reading the specs before installing). I have to use a pressure regulator on it to dial the pressure down, but it keeps on working and has no issues now that it has been dialed in (I have about 6000 miles on it so far).

When you change the pump, rewire the relay to be triggered from the ignition module power.
Kill the spark,kill the pump.
Just keep in mind that the pump won't "cycle" like OEM.

Maybe the easiest place to get to the power feed to the ECU and coils is behind the right side inner fairing cover. It is C54, a white 4 pin connector, near the ECU. The black/white wire is the one you want. If you trigger your relay with that wire, the pump will turn off when you turn ignition off, or the kill switch or if you fall over and the bank angle sensor will cut it off.

The output for the fuel pump in the ICU is repairable on the 1500 if you have minor electronics and soldering skills, it is a blown output transistor (T03 package) that supplies power to the pump. Replace with pretty much any generic T03 package transistor of correct polarity that can handle 5 amps.

There's a "How-to" thread on this site somewhere. It will specify a good replacement transistor.
They say 98% of all Hardleys ever made are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.
(I stole this from somebody on another GW site...)

thanks all for the help. gl-1500 I P, as the sticker on the gas cap panel says, guess thats why the wire color code doesn't always match.
