Goldwing 1500 Center Stand

Postby Jlafond » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:06 pm

I'm new to the Goldwing and I'm having difficulty placing my 1500 SE on it's center stand. I'm not a weakling and I know that this is supposed to be an effortless task. I simply cannot pull the bike up and back to engage the centerstand spring. Any suggestions?

Have a look at this article: How to get the bike up on its center stand

I also suggest (the article suggested above is exactly what you need too), if you have an onboard compressor for rear shock, put some extra pressure in the rear shock before trying to stand the bike up on the center stand (I put about 20lbs). This raises the rear end up, which makes the fulcrum point for the center stand closer to the floor. Overall effect...less distance you have to "lift" the bike...and much easier to put bike on center stand!!!

I found the 1500 much easier to put on the center stand than my 1200 because more of the weight seems to be forward. The trick is for you to face forward (rather than face the bike), hold the handlebars and use your weight with your right foot on the stand and pull back in one smooth action to bring it up.

I use my left foot. Hold the handle bar and the grab handle. Bring the stand down to the ground so that both feet are touching then just transfer your weight to your left foot and the stand and up she goes.

I've tried with my right foot and find I am too far forward. A guy have my size showed me with a left foot and I was converted.

Thanks. I'll give your way a try (when it stops raining in Nova Scotia!)

FYI. A friend of mine suggested the "roll the rear tire up onto a board" trick that is posted on the linked web site, but with a 1x(whatever) board vs. a 2x(whatever) board. It works like a charm, and with the 1x board, it is easier to roll up onto the board than with a 2x board.

Go to youtube.com and search "goldwing center stand" You will see several videos that show the way to put the bike on the center stand without lifting 900lbs.

It worked for me and now I usually get it on the first try.
