1500 Aspencade High Altitude (9000 Ft)

Post by carl_rc » Thu Jan 06, 2011 5:25 pm

I just got invited to take a road trip to Colorado this summer. I am told that the altitude in this mountainous region is approximately 9000 ft. above sea level. Being a flat-lander myself I do not know whether it is advisable to run my carburated wing at this elevation for a few days. Does anyone have experience with this?

You likely won't have a problem, the engine will be running rich at higher altitudes, so minimize the time you have it choked (which enriches the mixture even more). You might want to run some carb/engine deposit cleaner through your fuel during and shortly after your trip to ensure any carbon deposits are cleared out....but if it were me, I'd just do nothing but ride. :)

You won't have any problems at altitude. In fact my 1500 gets better gas mileage up in the mountains.
