Gages and reverse

Postby bigguy_362001 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:13 am

HI I just this weekend was on a ride and the gas and water temp gage quite working. I have checked the fuses they are all working. The reverse did not work also when I needed it for the first time. it did work when I got the bike. can anyone give me any insite to this problem and also the OD light does not come on when you shift into 5th, it all happened when I stopped for fuel except for the reverse which maybe something different. it is a 96 aspencade.

Thanks Joe

The reverse problem could be the cables that run from the left to the right side. They are adjustable like a throttle cable. As for the gauges, the connection may have come loose. Always start with the simplest item and move toward the more complex ones. You should probably get the repair manual to guide you. Its irreplaceable.

Thanks I have a Cylmer manual for this bike but I have not found much on the gages in there. I seen there was a fuse for the reverse so I started there and checked all the fuses because the temp and gas gage all went out at the same time, and also the O D indicator light. and I think but have to check I also think the oil light is not coming on either.

But I will check the simple stuff if I find where to look for it in the manual.

Thanks again
Joe

Hi Joe,

Had the same problem with my 99 GL. I had checked all the fuses but all seemed alright. Took the bike to the dealer who fixed it. They said that the problem was indeed a fuse.

You will have to look BEHIND the fuse/relay box. To do that, you will need to remove or at least take out the bolts for the left saddlebag. The saddlebag needs to be moved to get to the rear of the fuse/relay panel.
Fuse #13 is the Backup fuse and it will cause your indicated malfunction.
