Rear speakers

Postby donnielama » Sat Feb 05, 2011 2:56 pm

I have a 98 wing se and I'd like to replace the rear speakers. I've removed to 2 screws below the speakers but the grill seems stuck. I don't want to force anything is there a trick or something I'm missing.

Open the trunk lid. I think there are more screws inside.

www.wingstuff.com has a set of J&M replacements on sale for $58.99. Item # JMUSK9000.

www.Chromeworld.com has a set of 30watt replacements for $28.95. Item #2607.

Could probably find more with a search. As far as your local stereo shops go, they might have something that will fit. I thing our speakers are an off size. Most stereo shops won't have them.

Replace them with waterproof marine speakers if you can find some you like
otherwise you will be replacing them again soon...

I replaced my rear speakers with $8 speakers from an auto store last summer, 2010. I have ridden through rain and shine, washed my bike plenty of times and the speakers are still just fine. You can spray them with a can of wax, such as furniture polish spray if you want to repel the water, but I don't think that's necessary. What I did was to put a thin layer of a plastic sheet over them and that works fine without muffling the sound noticeably. I've always been one to find ways to pinch a penny till it's a strand of copper wire!
