97 Cruise Control Switch

Post by YZ51 » Sat Feb 12, 2011 10:57 pm

The cruise control On/Off switch is not working on my bike. It looks like the original switch unit is no longer available through OEM methods. Is this true and if so, where might I locate a suitable replacement? Is the switch available by its self anywhere or has anyone had any luck repairing this switch? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The complete assembly must be replaced. I've read of guys who took it apart successfully, but they all warn that its a sod of a job. All the little springs and contacts fly all over the workspace
I managed to get the assembly from Holland, then found I didn't need it. It's still lying around in my room, brand new.

There is a switch assembly on Ebay right now for $69.99 on a Buy It Now.
It is Item Number 380307964392.

It is for an Aspencade. you did not say if your bike was an Aspencade or SE.
And, if you go to Ebay, enter this in the search window - gl1500 goldwing handlebar - and you will about 137 items that fit that criteria. Lots of switches and such. Have a look.

Remove the switch from the bike and spay contact cleaner into the switch (from the handle bar side of it)... Keep spraying while working the switch manually... You likely will find the switch begins to funtion normally once again... Just did one on a 1989 (oringinal switch) and it works great now... Just be sure to use contact cleaner that is plastic safe...
