Timing belt replacement

Postby furnacedoc » Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:12 pm

Hello, I have a 97 gl1500se and I replaced my timing belts by following the instructions given on this site/ Thank you for the info. my question is while i was in the process of replacing the belts I had some Leakage from the Cooling system that seems to have stopped after putting the bolts back in for the timing covers. Is this normal , it only leaked about 1 ounce or less but still it leaked. any info would be greatly appreciated .

Leakage from the cooling system would not be normal unless you removed an incorrect bolt.

DO THE 3 LONGER BOLTS FOR THE TIMING COVER REACH INTO THE ENGINE BLOCK COOLING SYSTEM TO HELP SEAL A GASKET THERE?

No, I don't believe so. I have replaced timing belts on three different GL1500's and never once was there a liquid leak of any kind.
