Cleaned carbs on 89 1500

Postby steve60usa » Sat Apr 09, 2011 4:29 pm

I cleaned the carbs on a 1989 GL 1500. Big job. The engine ran great
Now a few days later it is acting like it never was cleaned. Rough
Idle and RPM ISN't steady. Tank is clean and new fuel filter. Any ideas?

Sounds like a vacuum leak. May have knocked a hose lose during reassembly. Been there..Done that.

How old is the fuel, might try some seafoam or marvel mystery oil in fuel.

We removed the carbs again and flushed all the jets and ports. We found
One of the short vacuum hoses on the bottom cracked. Don't know if we
Cracked it separating the carbs, of if that is what caused it. It is running
Great now. Called Honda dealer for fuel filter and they wanted to
Rip me off $23.00. Used a Napa 3003 for $4.79 and works fine. Just
a little bigger diameter.
