1500 Throttle Cable

Postby speedy84 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 8:33 pm

Hey guys, new to the site and I looked through and found one piece on throttle cable replacement. It looked like it was on a 1200. I Have a 89 1500 Aspencade that I was getting ready and found the throttle stuck. Is the info in the ohter article applicable to the 1500 or is there a different process for replaceing the throttle cable?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The throttle cable replacement will be quite similar - there are still two cables, they hook to a bellcrank the same way, and the same method (pulling the old ones out with a wire attached, then using the wire to pull the new ones into place) will work to install the new cables.

As WingAdmin states, it is pretty much the same for almost all models of the wing. They all have 2 cables (Push/pull arrangement) so the technique of using the old cable to pull the new one through applies to all models. Adjusting the slack is the same.. You should be able to use the 1200 article for your 1500, any differences will be very minor.

I don't know where you are buying the replacement cables BUT my local bike shop has the capability to replace JUST the inner cable and not the entire cable housing and all. Its like ten bucks or so per cable for him to do it. Just a thought.

Thanks guys for all the input. After I made it through the disassembly process I found it was not the cables! Butterflys stuck in the carb. Got everything cleaned up and put back togeather and went ot crank, dead cell in battery. What luck. Off to the store tomorrow to get a new battery and hope my wrenching works!

Thanks again for all the input.

Ride safe!
