1995 Clutch lever bushing.. dimensions of hole?

Postby ka9nyn » Fri Apr 29, 2011 1:28 pm

Hi, All.
The bushing in the clutch lever on my '95 1500SE is worn through, allowing lever to drift back and
trip the cruise switch.
My question is: how far through the bushing is the hole supposed to go? (my Honda brand shop manual is no help)

I'd like to just tap the present hole, run in a brass bolt to the correct depth, cut off same and reuse
the bushing.

Yes, I am a tighta$$...actually just an exercise for my 56 yr old brain.

Any info appreciated.

Dave

If you are talking about the same little brass bushing in the clutch lever, I just bought a new one, it was a couple of bucks, simple fix, I also am a tighta$$ but the bushing was just to cheap.

Wish I could find one for less that $8.00 USD.
Just seems too darn much for a piece of brass
the size of a .25 cal bullet.

I respect a guy that has the know how and tools to duplicate a part to exact spec,s But I,ve bought many bikes over my life and when working on them found some pretty weird looking homemade parts on them That made My job a little more harder. I,m not sure, But that bushing might be made of oilite brass. I would just shell out the eight bucks. Safe riding to Ya.

...or just go out to a local range and pick up an empty .25 casing? :)

Re: 1995 Clutch lever bushing.. dimensions of hole?--UPDATE!

Postby ka9nyn » Fri May 13, 2011 6:33 pm

UPDATE!!!
Received new bushing and installed same. No more slop in clutch lever,
hopefully cruise will operate properly.

By the way, the bushing is plain brass, not oilite.

Way back when I had my '83 Venture, wear to the clutch and front brake lever bushings
was a problem. A tiny dab ( just enough to make bushing slick) of bearing grease
would prevent the problem.

When it quits raining/blowing/ anf get above 40*F, I'll go test. Hopefully tomorrow.

This might be an urban legend, but I remember the story of the guy who used a .22 shell as a fuse in his pick-up when his headlights went out. Old story, new fuses aren't made that way. Short caused the shell to get hot and bang. :D

Finally got to go for a ride. :D
With new clutch lever bushing installed cruise works fine.
Now, if weather will cooperate, more riding this weekend
(although it is to work) and more next week.

Wishing you all a SAFE and enjoyable (not mutually exclusive) Memorial Day!
