speedometer

hi all! I think I need to change my speedometer, can I remove this without taking the fairing off my 94 1500 SE, I have the windshield off allready

Hi back at Ya, Is Your speedo actually smashed or it just does not work ? You might just have a cable or gear problem. I do not know if You checked these area,s .

yes , I disconnected the cable at the back of the speedo and cable turns fine to that point, I took a chainsaw file square end and reached up putting it in the space that the cable goes and I cannot turn the speedo

You should not be able to spin the cable by hand if it is seated in frt. wheel gear.

I disconnected it from both the wheel and the speedo, I watched as I spun it from the wheel end...... it is jammed in the speedo on my dash

I personally have never had to replace the speedometer unit, Unless there is someone on the forum that has done this and can give You some pointers, I suggest a manual is in order to perform the job, Sorry I could not help You more. Safe riding to Ya.

You don't have to remove the entire faring. The windshield comes off first. Then the dash cover comes off to give you access to the screws holding the instruments in place. Take the clear plastic cover off the instruments and remove the screws from behind the speedometer and pull it out from the front.
