Low speed wobble 1500GL-1989

Postby efisher » Sun May 22, 2011 9:12 pm

I was wondering if anyone else experiences a bit of a low speed wobble in the front forks during turning and cornering.
The bike has done this since i bought it last year. i had a fork brace installed but it hasn't cured the problem.
I feel it more when i have a passenger and some luggage aboard.
If anyone has any helpful info it would be very much appreciated.

Have you had a look at the front tire to see if it is cupped? That is a common cause of wobble that shows up only in turns.

I had the same problem on my 1994 GL1500. It was the front tire. When I changed the tire it rode perfectly. You might also want to check the seals on your front forks and make sure one of them is not leaking oil.

I had a wobble in the front of my 1993 put a new tire on the front and the same thing, so I put a new tire on the back and it cured the wobble. Check and see if the back tire is wearing even. Hope this helps. Mike

I had the same problem. I replaced the stem bearings and took care of the problem.

I just got the bike in April of 2011.. 88GL1500, and it will wobble on the front at mid to highway speeds. Thought it was a warped/bent rim or out of round tire. But may try the suggested bearings and see what happens.. Cheaper than a tire!!! ;)

I had a slight wobble on my 1100, I put on new rear progressive shocks and the wobble when away, I can't get it to wobble at any speed now...It's not always up front... but many times it is..
