CB Mast Replacement - 98 GL 1500

Postby Hands » Wed May 25, 2011 10:59 pm

Someone thought it would be nice to snap the mast of my cb antenna right at above the spring 'mount base'.

I am trying to remove this portion so I can replace the mast only. Diagrams show that I ought be able to unscrew this portion but there is not a lock nut.

Any suggestions?

Unless the new mast is the same length and has the same loading coil as the original, you will have a very hard time tuning the CB SWR - and if it's out enough, it could even damage the transmitter.

I've broken CB antenna masts twice (both my own fault), and both times have replaced them with units from Sierra-MC - you might want to look into that as an option.

Thanks for the info, I will check it out for sure.

So, guess I am just better off to buy the whole unit rather than just the mast?

Because my issue is I can not remove the spring unit from the base of the antenna.

Should come apart at the base as shown and that looks to be about it.

Where in Canada are you?

Yes I saw that from the manual and tried to see if it would unscrew as indicated in the diagram. No luck!

I am in the Kingston area.
