92 aspencade cooling

Postby wbetheajr » Sun Jun 05, 2011 4:54 pm

I have noticed several times lately that my wing will occasionally drip some antifreeze out when sitting at a stop light around town but today I was out on the interstate and I had her wound up around 70 to 75 mph, I looked and the temp gauge was running about halfway on the gauge, for around 35 minutes. as soon as I pulled in the driveway the cooling fan came on. I shut the bike down and looked under the bike and it was dripping antifreeze again. The temp outdoors today was around 90 so I know it will run a little warm but not that warm at that speed. What should I check first and how can you check the water pump?

Locate where it's dripping from,There is a weep hole near the front center of the engine, under the lower hose, on the bottom. If it's coming from there, the pump seals are leaking. The only way to check the pump is to pull the lower hose and cover plate. That will expose the impellers.I wiggled mine and found the bearings loose. After that I removed the front cover(on the bike)replaced the pump and "O"rings.

I checked under the bike, and with the bike sitting on the side stand the antifreeze was dripping out of the lower cowel on the right side of the bike. could it be a bad radiator cap? I remember it also leaked pretty good back in december when I done the toys for tots run and it was cold that day. How do you get to the radiator cap?

I think I figured it out. I guess I need to learn how to read the owners manual. I have always checked the coolant level when it was cold. I read the manual tonight and it said to check it hot while its running. well cold the level is just over the full mark, hot is about to run over. I guess I'll get the turkey baster out and suck some out of it, don't tell the wife. duh, thats one on me.
