Can i add a vent to a ventless windshield?

Postby 1wingman4u » Wed Oct 14, 2009 6:43 pm

I have a '93 aspencade and the windshield is in nice condition but has no vent. I am very handy with saws and tools in general as I have been working in sheet metal for my entire life. Is it possible to cut a hole in my shield and add a vent? Living in Florida and having an extremely tall windshield makes it very hot in the summer months. I hate to replace a good shield just because it has no vent. Anybody ever tried it??

One of our members here did exactly that, and took pictures as she went along:

Thanks for the reply! I kinda thought it was possible but didn't know if the plexiglass would stand the vibration of being cut without shattering. I wonder if I bought a vent if it would come with a template for making the opening?

I have a vent & it collects bugs & I, along with many, hardly ever use it.
On top of it when you clean it is just something else to manauver around.
The next windshield will be without the vent!

I ride from 30 degrees (i.e. today!) up to 90+ degrees, and in summer, I would LOVE to have a vent blowing air on me.

Living in Wisconsin I doubt you would ever need a vent....but in Florida.....near 100 degrees??

I have my Vent covered with Duct Tape....here's my 2cents worth....it blows COLD Air on me in the Winter and Hot Ass Air from the Pavement in the Summer, My Next Winshield will Have No VENT......Think About 100 Degree Air blowing in your Face.....not good.....
