92 1500 ignition switch

Postby ironman1973 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 11:25 am

Summertime, wrong season for problems. When I turn key no indications lights come on and won't strart. I can pop the clutch going downhill and engine will start and run, however; no guages work, no overdrive, no neutral, no kickstand light comes on and Headlights don't work. If I hit a bump sometimes everything works. I also can start if I jump a ground wire to a connection near battery but also no gauges work. I eliminated the fuses because works sometimes my next guess is the ignition switch may be bad, or some loose connection. If while drivimg I turn key to off then back on everything works again. There must be a better remedy than what I have found. Thanks, ironman

Like you I would suspect the ignition switch. Not a good idea to turn ignition off and back on while driving. Backfire can cause damage to the carbs or even blow a head gasket.

dingdong, thanks for responding. I realize that turning ignition on and off is not a good habit, but I was trying to find out more about my problem. I'm going to take all connections and put dialectric grease on and make sure they are tight. Also I will try to get a used switch from a boneyard to see if it will remedy the problem. Honda wants close to 150 for a new switch! Thanks for your input.
