1992 Goldwing se no dsh lights, headlamp, or turn over

Postby Polecatlw » Fri Jul 01, 2011 10:21 pm

Went riding and stopped for gas fill up, no problems. Filled up and was leaving I thought. No way.
Had no dash lights, key would not start up anything. Battery was at full charge. I tried to jump thinking maybe that would do it, no such luck. I used screw driver to start bike, behind dog bone fuse, and bike started up fine and ran well, but no dash lights, or headlamp. I noticed about 10 miles down the road the dash lights were working and headlamp. I got home and bike started up fine. A few days went by and started up fine again. I tried angin later and NO GO. And have had tried several times with no luck. I have used the screw driver to try to start with no luck. It will turn over as normal but will not start. Anyone with an idea.....Thanks

I have a similar problem on a 1990 gl1500. Started fine everytime until yesterday. Wont turn over and i have checked all fuses and battery. Have dash lights, horn and radio. Fuel gage, headlights or starter wont turn over. Still trying to figure it out so let me know what you find and i will do the same.

I have a 1994 GL1500se and had the same problem. By testing all the fuses, it turned out to be fuse #8. Hope this will help but electrical problems are pesky problems.

Have you had any luck? I am still messing with mine. I can start by jumping the solenoid but not with the start button. No headlights, neutral light, no fuel guages.

Well, found that one of the wires involved with the trailer lights was shorting out near the rear. Just to make sure I wrapped the connectors in a piece of rubber. It never shorted out again. Now I am reluctant to remove the wiring just in case it causes another problem. So, I have left it wrapped in rubber and gorilla tape (tucked out of the way). Hope you solve your problem.

Well, gave up and took it to a shop. Reverse relay switch was out. It did not show that the reverse handle was in off position. Runs good now. Thanks for your input.....
