While waiting for my rear tire...

Postby HillVR » Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:09 pm

First let me say this site is amazing. Thank you to all who have read and helped me nurse my bike back into shape. I am replacing the rear tire (it's an 06), I have lubed the driveshaft, checked the brakes, repaired my swing arm rub issue, getting my air shock welded, replaced the final drive oil and engine oil, lubed the final drive spline, doing a general cleaning of the entire area and possible shooting some black paint on the swingarm. Is there any other maintenance I should perform while it's out in the open? As soon as I get my shock fixed and the tire installed I want to ride...alot.

You must be back on the road by now, when I replaced my rear tire over the winter I have to replace the shock boot on the rh side with a new boot. I got it at Autozone for under $10

I just replaced my rear Tire, myself, and installed balancing beads, got them from a local tire shop. I put in 2 oz of beads. Works great, I also had mine apart in the winter and did alot of other maintenance while I was there, New Right Hand Shock boot, Drive shaft lube, Replaced the Rear brake disc and pads, Rear Wheel bearings, My bike has 135,000km on it with no maintenance records, I enjoy doing maintenance, so you might say I had alot of fun. I have several 4,000km rides planned for this summer, Now I have no worries and I know the job has been done right.

Hey Keith, I priced the boot for the air shock and Honda wants $40. Do you have a part number or info for the boot you got at Autozone? Mine was ripped to shreds. Also, I had the lower connector welded back on my air shock and overfilled it...found that out when I roller her off the center stand and ran the air down to zero. Had a nice puddle. Ran it up and down and now shes right as rain.
