This bike sat for a while after the person that owned it passed away My brother took it to a shop and had everything clean and rebuilt that needed it but when he got it back the throtle sticks like it is on cruise control and smells like it is running real rich on fuel someone told me that they think the mechanic mixed up a vacuum line do you think this is possible ? or do you have any idea's and what do you thik it would cost to fix somthing like this . P.S. I bought the bike from him because he was going to trade it in and I bought very right . it has 27000 mi on it and I got it for $2600.00

Need some more information, most of the '88 goldwings have a vacuum contolled petcock just above the gas cap, look for any fuel there, 2600 sounds like a great price for the bike, especially with the miles, with the age, I would expect to change timing belts, plugs, look at the air filter, change all of the fluids, brake and clutch, check the front forks for leaking seals. If it is carbs, I have a set for an '88 I bought off ebay, and found out different for 89, and they are supposedly in good condition, but if I were you, I would get a manual, take my time, take it one step at a time. The throttle cable probably just needs lube, or it is very possible that it is in a bind somewhere , but you have to take plastic off to see it, and it sure is nice to have a manual, as it gives everything in a step by step process. What color is the bike, and where are you located?

I picked up my '88 last spring. Had the petcock issue that Ben spoke of. It was leaking right into the tray surrounding the gas cap and down below. Not a safe issue to be riding with. The riders behind me even picked up on the smell. Replaced the entire assembly, however, I think some have mentioned a kit to rebuild it. No problems since and the mileage certainly got better! Good luck.

I tried the kit, and consider it now a waste of my money, it is a bear to get it sealed, and I didn't, I have the 102.00 oem replacement enroute, so in my opinion, if there is gas at the petcock, replace it!
