93 1500 electrical problem

Postby holdinheaven » Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:30 pm

I recently bought a goldwing 1500 and found that the alternator wasn't working and replaced it. Now after replacing the alternator the bike has to be killed out with the engine stop switch, the ignition will not kill the bike out. And after the bike is turned off for a few minutes all of the memory for the radio and clock are reset like a dead battery. Can anybody tell me what the problem is?

I suspect it's more than one fault.. The radio memory does not get fed from the ignition switch, it is a fused always on circuit, so I suspect that fuse has failed, but I do not know where it is located on your model of Wing, hopefully someone on here can help. The other problem sounds like a wiring/ignition switch issue. I do not have a wiring diagram for your model so cannot suggest where to start looking, but I do think you are looking for 2 different problems.

If the switch is bad it can short the power and that can cause a reset to radio. It is also possible that the fuse to memory is bad.

I replaced the 5amp fuse and the radio is functioning properly now, but I still have to kill the bike out with the engine stop. So its either a wire problem or switch problem for the killing out problem with the switch??
