starting issue

Postby bobcat42 » Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:03 pm

Hi Guys
I have had a problem i have been messing with all summer and finally figured it out. I had no headlight, neutral light and it would not start with the button. I finally found there was no voltage from the fuse to the reverse lever switch. I guess the wire is broke because i ran a jumper wire from the fuse to the brown/white wire at the switch and everything now works.
Hope this helps someone because i have a lot less hair than when the problem started.

Dear Happy trails

I logged on this morning to see if anyone else was having this problem. When I bought the bike in june the dealer changed the reverse switch because of what sounds to be the same problem you are having. However,it's happening again 12,000 klm's later,so hopefully I won't have to change the switch, but look for a loose or broken wire.I'll let you know what I find.
I hear a clicking noise when the lights go out as if a relay is switching.Did you hear the same thing somewhere behind the battery?

No i didnt have anything making any noise. I could jump across the solenoid and start it, but ididnt have a headlight, neutral light, gages didnt work or anything. It would not start with the button.
Check the brown/white wire for voltage at the reverse lever switch. Thats where i found the problem.
Exactly what is yours doing or not doing? I have a manual i downloaded that has some pretty good info in it and i will research it .

Gordon,

That clicking is your starter solenoid. It is supposed to do that. check to see if you have voltage at the starter when you push the starter button. if you have voltage you can bet it is a starter problem. Let us know what you find.

Thank you all so much for your input. It turned out to be a faulty ignition relay.I replaced it and vroooooooom, away she went. Sweet music to my ears.
