Me and my new to me 97 1500SE

Postby wehrd1 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 8:53 pm

I finally found one that was in excellent condition, had even more farkles than the SE, and was most importantly mechanically excellent AND in my price range!!!

We had to drive 5 hrs to MN (from SE Iowa) to go see it & test drive it. The ride home was sunny and cold.

...i knew i should have never ridden my fiances' gl1800...see what that made me go out & do.

pearl sapphire black...it's really cool...it's metallic navy blue in the sun, and looks black in low light.

i think i'm going to remove the passenger arm rests though...even thought my 14 y/o son rides with me, i just don't like the way they look.

I've never been a fan of the passenger arm rests, mine would come off as well.

Hi all. My name is Colleen.... I've been riding for 6 yrs.

Started on a Suzuki gl550, then went to a Suzuki Volusia VL800, and most recently my new-to-me 1997 GL1500SE. pearl sapphire black

My fiance' bought a 2010 GL1800 and I made the mistake of driving it....that's all she wrote folks...i HAD to have a GW...but my budget could only handle a gl1500

We take long trips on the bikes, and even though i LOVE my VL800, I really needed something more comfortable for our 4000 mile road trips

Can't wait to learn from members here all about my GL1500.

here are a few pics...

I'm taking the arm-rests OFF....really not liking those...

A very nice bike, Colleen. Just curious - how tall are you? My wife would love to have a Goldwing as well (omg, what did I do teaching her to ride), but being rather short in stature, doesn't think she could handle the size and weight.

Very nice looking scoot you have there. I have a 93 SE and had an 85 Aspy and love/ loved them both. I have a son that lives in Marion Iowa and another couple that have another GW site in Muscatine Iowa. Small world at times. I had friends in Keokuk Iowa YEARS ago.

I can say I did'nt think much for the armrests, but when riding solo they can come in handy. About 200 miles into a ride just lean back and rest the elbow and let everyone else know how comfy the ride is.

I can only assume you mean that at 35 Y.O. and not DOING 35 m.p.h. you can "easily flat foot"

I actually did take them off, but my son wanted them back on. a couple weekends ago, i had the opportunity to ride solo, and did exactly as you suggested....i leaned back & put my elbow on one, and my feet up on my pegs....i was riding on my couch rocket :)

i can't wait til it warms up again up nort' here, and we take our trip to Natchez Trace and then over to Marble Falls, AR to the Hub to ride the best roads, and stay with the nicest folks in the Midwest...

I have a 97 1500, and love it, sometimes drool on the 1800, but my 1500 does all I want, Did about 13,000km last year and about 20,000km in 2011, I fully enjoy it and my wife loves it as well

The GL1500 is truly an outstanding example of motorcycling engineering!

I bought a '95 Interstate back in January of this year and have enjoyed every mile I've put on 'Ruby'.

I've ridden her from Virginia to California and back, rode up Mount Washington during the Americade back in June and rode The Dragon in September. In my opinion, you can't ask for a more versatile machine with (1) comfort for the long haul; (2) power to overcome any incline and fairly decent handling to ride the twisties.

Congrats on the new scoot and it's a fine looking machine!

I am picking up a '97 SE same exact color. 39,000 miles on it, a few extra farkles as well. Was a deal, I thought. Can't wait to take it home on a 1000 mile test run! Pick it up tomorrow, December 31st...

A goldwing, lady in leather, the next question is do you have tools and know how to use them? Just kidding, it would be a great combo. Its a sharp wing and hope it gives you half a million miles of joy.

Beautiful bike there Colleen. I see that you have one of those interesting handles like me that in your own mind discribes yourself. Some one I knew years ago said to me "arn't you the fiesty one?" and it stuck. So I changed the spelling as @ the time I wanted a personal plate & had to make it fit. Welcome to the forum This one is my 11th including an all women one. Enjoy that fab machine. Cheers Angela aka fysty-1
Sorry just noticed the date on your post.

Congrats on your Wing.
I know how good she looks as I just brought home a 97 just like her. 39,000 miles and seems to have been cared for. I'm adding new tires and windscreen and will be riding soon.
