Without worrying about making electricals connections, what are all of the parts that it takes?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It's an entire subsystem on the Aspencade and SE.
There's a different starter, fusing, relays, regulator, wiring, control lever and that's just to name a few parts.

"IF" I had all of the parts, are you saying that I can't make the conversion?

The most difficult aspect is if I would have to open the engine case to install parts inside the case. Are there parts inside an Aspencade and SE case that are not already inside an Interstate?

You will need an entire engine replacement. Then the electronic parts. Getting a new A or SE would be more feasible and probably cheaper.

Not actually a complete engine!!

It isn't impossible, but it requires the "rear case" of a GL1500A (Aspencade) or a GL1500SE (Special Edition).

For a 1992 GL1500IN the case is Honda part 21111-MT2-010 CASE COMP., RR. - A'92'93, SE'92'93.

At http://www.speedsupplies.com/cartdisplay.asp
the retail price is listed as $646.76
their sale price is listed as $565.92

There are still MANY more parts ($$$) to be bought and installed.

Another aspect, is that some of the electrical connectors for the system are not part of the Interstate wiring harness.

You may actually be better off if you purchase a wrecked Aspencade or SE and transferred all the components to it. Maybe find someone who is parting out an entire bike or like suggested to upgrade to an Aspy or SE.
