air filter

Postby gene1941 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 11:04 pm

Hi, I have a 1500 California model. This fall, after the bike sitting through the summer, I replaced the air filter with a non California filter as the dealer did not have a Ca. one in stock. I now have a severe hesitation when accelerating from a stop. I have run some seafoam through with not much improvement. Could the non Ca. air filter be causing this or is it from sitting all summer? I did put stabil in the fuel in the spring. Any opinions?? Thanks

Did you use the marine grade of Stabil? If not and you are using ethanol fuel you could have gummed up the fuel. Others have reported that there is a reaction with the red formula Stabil and blended fuels stored over time. If this is the case, drain fuel, change fuel filter, drain float bowls . refill with fresh fuel and Seafoam again.
