88 GL1500 brakes

Post by talon1elvis » Sun Jan 01, 2012 11:07 pm

I need some recommendations on choices for brake pads and rotors. I recently put new EBC pads on the back of my 88 GL1500. They only lasted a couple thousand miles. I now need to replace both front and rear rotors and pads. I've seen several reviews of the EBC pads and may give them another chance since I knew the rear rotor was in bad shape, but I certainly expected the pads to last longer than this. I can get the new rear EBC rotor from several places but can't find a new front rotor for my machine other than Honda OEM. I'm looking for any recommendations on this topic. Just for background, the bike had only 31K on it when I purchased it last Dec and now has almost 43K. When I replaced the rear pads, the rear rotor was cracked in one place. The calipers appear to be functioning correctly. Thanks.

If the rotor was cracked, that's a pretty good reason why the pads lasted so short a time.

I've used EBC pads for quite a few years and never had any problems.

This is where I get my pad for my 1989 model. The front rotors are available.
