intermittent Audio

Postby curtb » Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:31 pm

The Audio system on my 03 GL1800 began to act up and become unresponsive to input the other day. I tried to see if it would reset possibly by disconnecting the batt for a short while, then reconnecting. It seemed to work for a short time actually but later fell into the same 'locked up' mode. Seems to be stuck in the last selection on FM1 which is NPR by the way, and thats killing me. Now none of the buttons function except the MODE and rotary volume.

Any specialized radio/audio repair shops for this kind of thing around?? Anyone know of any common failure modes or components that I should look at first?? Not looking forward to referring this issue to a honda dealer.

Now drinking heavily in Mesa, AZ

OH HAPPY DAY !!

After much agonizing, contemplation, and even sacrificing some of my favorite old tee shirts to the Gold Wing spirits I stumbled on the cause of my recent malaise. I found that my CB transmit trigger switch was stuck in the transmit position. The return spring had apparently given up recently. When I pushed it back up to its normally spring loaded position EVERYTHING came to life again. All functions and inputs work as advertised. In the normal manner of a consumate aerospace professional that I am, I applied a small piece of scotch tape (name brand, not the cheap stuff) to secure the switch in the correct position.

Once again, Im off the suicide watch list and the world is turning normally.......for now.

THANKS... to the gentleman that replied, I called Sierra and they were ready to receive and repair my audio package for a fee of $100 plus shipping, which I feel is fair compared to the cost I would have endured at a local Honda dealer.

Got to love those cheap fixes but just because the fix was an easy one doesn't mean it's easy to find sometimes! :D

What do you mean by a cheap fix ? I'm not shure I understand what you're talking about, some of these people do a good job.
