Fuel Gauge Problem

Post by walkerll » Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:03 pm

Not sure if these things are related or how to fix. I just installed a trailer wiring harness on my 2007 Gl1800. Now my fuel gauge has stop working. I filled it up and drove 40 miles and is says it is empty. The gauge only reached just under half when I filled it up. Has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions on how to fix?

I don't own one or ever have worked on one,but here goes.
Now,I'm not being ugly here,but....If you altered the wiring in any way and now something doesn't work Undo what you did to see if it fixes the problem. If it does, then where the add on wiring is attached is upsetting the natural flow of voltage/signals.
If it does not change, then something that you wrenched on may have pinched a wire or ungrounded the fuel level sensor mechanism.
The level sensor is mounted to the tank, which is not a good ground. That's why there are 2 wires to the sensor mounting plate.
Check your wiring,especially the grounds.
Hope this helps.Let us know what you find and post some pictures of what's going on.
