Radio speakers

Postby ogilly0753 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 12:14 pm

I bought a 2012 GL1800 as a two wheel and have now triked it to a CSC Viper trike. Everything worked fine prior to conversion but have discovered a problem. When testing out tour new helmets with blue tooth I encountered this problem with my radio speakers/intercom. When testing the helmets, bike in neutral ignition on the speakers & intercom work fine for listening to the radio. If I place the bike in gear the sound is off whether by speaker or intercom. If in gear and I depress the clutch lever sound comes back on. Power appears to be on since I can still see the radio station displayed, just no sound. Same thing with the CB.In accessories position no sound. Has anyone experienced this? I have taken back to dealer and mech said he will have to call Honda for adivce.

Sounds like there is a bad ground on an audio component (amplifier?). The audio component is finding its ground through either the clutch switch or the neutral switch. When the bike is in gear and the clutch is released, that ground disappears, and the audio component stops working due to no ground.

Have your mechanic check all the grounds on the audio components.

Update: found bad ground wire for the trike kit. That fixed everything. Thanks for all the help.
