reverse activation

Post by kckb1 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 3:55 pm

On my 2002 GL1800, when I push the reverse button to activate reverse, the actutor operates and turns the reverse drum. The reverse light blinks slowly, and reverse doesn't work. When I disconnecet the cables from reverse drum, turn it manually, and push the reverse/start button it works. Was hoping there may be some suggestions. The bike is on it's center stand w/ side kick stand in the up position.

A slow blink rate (once a second or so) usually indicates a malfunction with the reverse mechanism itself. It may be out of adjustment or jammed or have some other electrical problem.

For what its worth. Our 2006 had a problem with reverse for over a year. I had it in the shop locally numerous times, they did replace one switch, and tried some cable adjustment. They said they could not duplicate the problem. I would not be able to engage reverse for as many as 8-10 times in a row.

However, since this goes in for parking one way, and has to be backed out under power, I could not deal with reverse not working.

I had the bike shipped out to Lancster Honda in Pa. Not really sure what they did, but I have not had a problem since they gave it back.
