Weird problem

Postby gagallagher04401 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:15 am

Hello all

I am trying to resolve a problem with my aunts motorcyle.

She has a 2008 GL1800 Goldwing trike. Great bike. Well we stroed it last year. Pulled the battery put it in the house so it would stay warm. Well went out the other day to get it out for spring for her. Battery was chargeed, put it in bike. Turn the key and got nothing. I said ok, check made sure kill switch was not on, in neutral, good connections, RVS was off, fuses etc... nothing. Load tested the battery it was OK so she bought a new battery though. put it in, still nothing. DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECKED EVERYTHING I can think of. I mean it is not rocket science. It was fine when we put it away last fall. Now nothing, makes no sense so it must be something stupid. Any thoughts?

Thanks
George

I can only think of a poor electrical connection between the battery and either the chassis or main relay.. I would be checking where the negative lead connects to the motorcycle frame to see if it corroded or came loose.. Then check the connection from the battery to the starter motor relay and again check for good clean connection..

Well I checked everything again. I even jumped to try the poor ground idea, no change. I checked all fuses, and all are fine, even checked them for cotinuity with my meter just to verify. Battery is good. Not sure what to check next. I have to belive it has to be something foolish, some button is pushed that shouldn't be or something. Like I mentioned before everything was fine when we put it away in the fall, and pulled the battery, and covered the bike up. Any more help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks
George

You haven't got a mouse that has made a nest in there and chewed the wires? It has happened to a lot of bikes that get laid up for the winter..

Not that I know of, I guess worth a look. Any particular area on the bike you think I should look? Damn bike is so hard to access anything, such a pain.

Thanks

Most of the cases I have heard off, the mouse enters either the airbox (through the two tubes that go from the airbox to the front of the bike) and makes a nest inside the airbox, or they get under the under the false tank, make a nest there and eat the wiring...

Before you tear it apart, might try looking at a couple of things. Reverse switch and is it in neutral. I know, I know - these are things that sound almost stupid, but what the heck. You did not say you were familiar with these bikes. Also, the kill switch is a three position switch. All the way left and all the way right are killed, with the run position in the center. There - now you can tear it apart.....

Got it guys. Thanks a ton. Ended up being a positive wire that got tucked way up inside and could not be seen or felt. I know it sounds dumb, and I feel dumb, but it is fixed and that is what matters.

Thanks
George

I had the same issue with my 02 wing it turned out to be one of the solenoids next to the battery about $35.00 and changed it myself.
