I'd suggest downloading the GL1800 Owner's Manual from the "Manuals" page. It is for the 2003, but for what you're looking for, nothing has changed. Instructions on checking and changing the oil start on page 126.

filter can be found at the front of the engine, left side if you are sitting on the bike...drain plug is below and closer to the center of the block...oil filler is located behind the ride side cover, just above and forward of the rear brake pedal.

If its the stock drain plug, it should be a 17mm ; some aftermarket magnetic plugs are a 13
