2012 Navi into 2010

Postby mcbrown » Mon May 07, 2012 1:04 am

I have a 2010 Gl1800 bought in Sept 2011. The only thing that I see that I need from the 2012 is the Navi. Anyone know if it is possible to upgrade this into the 2010. I suspect the electronics are vastly different and it would probably be a nightmare to do and probably very expensive.

You cannot have the 2012 screen display, as it will not fit into your top shelter. I do not believe you can put the top shelter from a 2012 onto your 2010. If you could, it would be prohibitively expensive. As far as the wiring and the trunk unit, yes, you could probably change those out for a very dear price, but if you cannot have the screen display, then what would be the sense. So, long to short - no, probably not. What is it about the 2010 NAVI that you don't like? They can be updated to take NT mapping now.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Thank you for your response.

The thing I dont like about the 2010 Navi is that I do trips around Perth here in Western Australia and down to the country and some of the these roads have been extended or modified and dont show changes. Our main Freeway which has been greatly extended south doesnt show either.

My 2010 Goldwing, which I purchased new here in Perth in Sept 2011 has the CF card and not SD card as I believe many other 2010 models have. My maps are 2009 which were produced in late 2008 and many road changes have happened in the last 4 years. It appears that we dont have map updates for the Navi here in Australia yet and when and if they are available Honda want AU$350. When they will be available I dont know and it appears neither do the 2 Goldwing dealers here in Perth either.

I noticed that in the US you guys can deal direct with Garmin. We cant do that here and have to go through Honda hence the $350 price tag.
One feels a bit ripped off by Honda due to the lack of support for a bike costing a considerable amount of money. Both Honda and Garmin really need to get their act together here and service the products they sell.
Thanks for listening.

Hi, Do you know how and where can I find an update file for my 2010?
