Did you manage to get your GPS update. Im in Perth Western Australia and did mine with the help of themainviking. Mine is dated March 2012. It cost me $14.50 for a new 2GB CF card.

Hi pienchips,
checked out my satnav cf card with audio and same happens to me. I also get a verbal message stating that "the audio is not compatable". As I stated previously I choose not to use the audio as it keeps cutting in on my music which I find irritating. Im just happy to have updated maps.
When I get time I will try and have a look at the files and see if there is an audio file or reference which can be manipulated to get the audio going. I presume it may require someone with programming skills to do this and that is not me.

Hi Murray
Thanks for the reply I thought it was me that had the lack of computer skills which makes me a bit more sane, yeah i think for $189 I can go with out the voice prompts and if i get realy stuck I can put back the old card .It just comes in handy in large cities.
If any body can come up with the audio answer it would be also great ,either way i'm happy.
Thanks again Murray

Open Street Map is free of charge and works great. For my opinion better than garmin (in Europe)!

For australia, I don't know.

Only thing you need is an empty 2GB CF-card!

Hi Ronco
It looks like the German version is great, pitty we don't have a english version of the power point presentation .
I seen that in one of the slides it has a "voice" folder ,I don't remember seeing this in the english version.
Would it be possible to for you to translate the German version because I know there would be alot of interested people over here that would benifit from it.(you are very lucky to be able to speak 2 languages).
Thanks

Here is the translation:

Before you start. The program "Mapsource" needs to be installed on your PC.

Then start with Page 5:
Open Link:
http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php

Browser will open

Page 6
Now you can see the bar with the Continents!
Here click on the continent you wish!

In this case for example Europe.
At the Window click Germany

The Browser will zoom now to Germany and marks
automaticly the Map tiles for this Aera!

In "Reset Selecton" set a hook.
Now you can select with the mouse the tile you want or deselect that you don't want..

We choosed for this Example the following
Map tiles. Now put in your Email adress.

After input of your E-Mail-Adress
click on:
Build my Map!

Now we have to wait.
Maybe some hours, until we receive the email.

Now we click on the marked Link.
Webseite will open.

Now we need the marked file
osm_routable_mapsource.exe
This file is only available for 48 hours.

Use the Mouse, save as...
save the file in a Garmin Folder on your hard disc.
It takes a while.

Now we double click the file at the Garmin Folder.
The Maps will transfered automaticly to MapSource!

Now you can see in MapSource,
that the Map tiles are transmitted and named: "OSM World Routable"!

With the marked Map Tool we can mark the Map tiles you realy need.

With the mouse and the map tool we mark now the tiles
you realy need on the GPS!
In our Example only one, for to see the difference!

Now we put the CF-card in the card reader! Create a Garmin Folder on it.

"send to GPS", save the map tiles on the CF-card (Garmin Folder)!

Thats it!

Good morning pienchips!

My local time here in Germany is 5:26 pm right now.

I hope the OSM are good enough for Australia!

By the way. I used MapSource Vers. 6.16.3

You are really far away from home!

Take care and have a save ride!

Hi all
I don't know if this will reach you all, but I just found out in a round about way that honda(or even garminor both) have put a bug in the software that won't let you hear the audio !
Sneeky little bugers arn't they
Thanks for your support.

I can't see that Ralph, as we have audio in the North America mapping. The firmware I passed on to you is for North America (and I guess, the world, as you can use it). Perhaps the map image files for Oz and NZ don't have the audio included.

Hi guys,

Am located in Perth and setting off in 10days time to Adelaide in South Australia to pick up my (new to me) 2008 GL1800 luxury having recently sold my '08 1400GTR. I would also be interested in some updated maps to suit the bike. Am not terribly fussed about the audio prompts either.

Anyone over this side of the pond able to offer assistance?

Thanks

Tim :)

Hi Tim
I have updated my Navi with a lot of trouble and fuss ,yes you get the new maps but if you hook up the honda system (Radio,CD stacker or Aux )either by bluetooth or cable and go to use the Navi at the same time it says on mine "incompatable audio" evertime it goes to talk to you, over and over and over again.
I have rang my local honda dealer to see how much an update compact flash card cost,I forget the actual figure but it was around $450.
If you read the links you should be able to get something happening, the gents on this link can help you more than I can as I only stumbled through it myself.
For my 2 cents worth I am going back to my old Tom Tom as I will not ever pay $450 for an update when the Americians only pay $99 for there update which in my books is still too much!
We need all Australian Goldwing owners to write to honda and complain,I have done this in my customer review letter and have never recieved as much as a thanks.$35k for a bike and not much support from upper management.

If you go into the menu you can turn off the voice prompt. I have done it on my 2010 Wing. Im on a cruise on the Voyager of the Seas at the moment otherwise I would be able to tell you where to find the setting. I wont be back for 2 more weeks yet.
I found a copy of the owners manual on my laptop.
On page 135 of the manual it says:
"To turn the Navi voice off with the Navigation System turned on push and
hold the NAVI button".
Hope that fixes it for you.

Hi Murry
I thought we were on a winner with the navi button BUT ,all this does is transfer the audio from the speakers on the bike to the headsets in your helmet ,so I suppose if you don't have a intercom on your helmet your laughing but guess what yes i have a intercom, bugger.
I was hopping I could switch off the voice prompts through the navigator system.
Does anybody know of another way around this ?

Hi Murray
In my haste I didn't read my manual so I did look at page 135 and found out above but I continued to look at page 136 and found that you can turn the volume down to -5, so when I get home I'll try this.
As my father used to say patience patience. :D

Have not had a chance to get this happening here. No PC as such, imac only kind of makes it hard to happen :(

Actually got back from Adelaide last night and now have the Wing sat in the garage and got to take it over the pits tomorrow, should be fine fingers crossed..

Pienchips, I think what Tim was saying is to push and hold the Navi button with the Navigation unit on, and the sound will turn off. If you got it to go from speaker to headset, you did not hold it long enough. You need to press and hold for a couple of seconds. If I remember rightly, it will beep when the sound turns off.

Hey guys,

had a few hours this afternoon to kill and the 2GB CF card from Ebay arrived today (omen or what) and I have managed to get Aus-NZ 2013.10 Nov 2012 maps installed and I also get the "the audio is not compatible" voice prompt when I put in an address to route to. It's not a big deal breaker for me as it does get annoying having the GPS cut in and out when I'm rocking to some cool music as I travel down the road hehe..

Still, shall keep trying to see if we can find a solution to the incompatible voice issues, if I can find a solution then shall post it here for all..

Cheers

Tim.
