removing cracked expansion tank

Postby Sullyba » Sat Jul 28, 2012 2:41 am

Hello guys....I recently purchased a 2009 Goldwing and found that the Expansion tank for the coolent was cracked. I have another coming soon. I also have a gl1800 service manual coming. I think the tank will be here first and I would like to get it replaced ASAP. Can someone provide information for replacing this tank. I also have a vented belly pan coming so this will not happen again. Thanks for any assistance given...Sullly

Hi Sullyba, if you look under the bike where the tank is, you will see one screw holding the tank, and there will be 2 hoses to disconnect. The tank will come out from the bottom.

+1 on what Flash said.......

Also after installing a new one you should also install a metal belly pan. It helps keeping the tank for getting cracked again.

+1 on the belly pan. That tank cracking/breaking is a very common problem on the 1800.

$38 for the cover plate is probably a lot cheaper than the coolant tank.

Thanks guys for the information... I will look into the removal process this weekend. This is where I'm at so far...I found a replacement E-Tank in Mich...brand new ...with shipping to Ga...42.00 to my front door. On Ebay I found a loovered belly pan stainless steel....I BID AND WON THIS PAN FOR 59.00 BOTH THE PAN AND TANK SHOULD BE DELIVERED MID-WEEK COMING....by this time I should be finished with other mods and making this Goldwing mine....Dark Star is the bikes name....I am really looking forward to turning corners on this bike. My last one was a 1997 GL1500SE sold 1.5 months ago. I upgraded to a 2009 GL1800 comfort- 8,000 miles very nice bike... Sullyba
