Charging issue

Postby galtech1 » Sun Sep 02, 2012 12:10 am

Hey everyone,
I have a 2002 GL1800. I can not seem to keep an altenator for very long. I have replaced it 4 times now along with the battery twice. The battery will not stay charged. Ive checked all the fuses, inspected the wiring ect yet if i go for any distance battery dies. I am told the stator is the issue?????? in 4 Alt. ????
can anyone help PLEASE.

The first thing I would check is the fuse in the starter button/reverse switch. If this goes it does prevent the battery from charging. If this is ok I would then look at any 'added' wires to see if there is a dead short causing charging problems. If you still have one of the 'old' Alternators then simply strip it down to check. What normally goes on these is the wires connecting to the Stator coil. A simple 'soldering' with another piece of wire fixes this problem. You will need to put a coating of varnish on it afterwards to prevent corrosion again. Then replace the alternator.

I have rebuilt dozens of 1800 alternators, and never had a bad stator. Usually it is the rotor and when it goes it takes out the voltage regulator. I have new and rebuilt 1800 alternators in stock. KEN 219-947-4038

I'm sorry it is the rectifior that keeps blowing..... I have checked all the fuses. they are all good. there is no added wiring. battery has been checked at three different places. checked all the wiring for corrosion and found none. what would cause the rect. to keep blowing out.
