While sitting at a traffic light, while idling My new 2012 GL 1800 started to seek it's idle speed. Jump up to 2,000 Then down to 500. It did this about 5 times before settling at 500. Now when I solwly accelerate and it reaches 2,000 performance drastically and noticbly drops but is then steady all through the rpm range. The dealer says is is normal.. but it did not do this before. Any suggestions? Any diagnostic tools available. I went through the steps to reset the ECM, including battery disconnect, to no avail. My concern is the ECM.. but I need a way to prove it to the dealer.

My suggestion would be to write to Stu Oltman of Wingworld Magazine. If he cannot figure it out, he will tell you how to get your dealer to at least go to Honda for the answers. He can be reached at email: email@example.com or by mail to Workbench, GWRRA, 21423 North 11th Ave, Phoenix, AZ, 85027. If you go this route, please let us know what you found out.

I had this happen this past week, I went to Honda to purchase a fuel filter only to find out the fuel pump has a screen that does not ever get changed so my next thought was water in the gasoline. I purchased a bottle of the chemical at an auto parts store that gets added to the fuel to make the water mix with the fuel and the problem appears to be gone. Took a day and a half before it completely was cured.

I haven't had the surge as it sounds but i have noticed at different points where i take off "semi-cold" start and it's almost like i hit the kill switch for a split second and as i go ahead and give it throttle it continues okay, so possibly a similar situation - only have 5k miles at this point. next time i am at my dealership i will pose the question for my circumstance. good luck in finding any other type of weird thing happening.
