2006 Goldwing GPS Problem

Postby rb7632 » Sat Nov 10, 2012 4:52 pm

I have an issue that I have been trying to get fixed for some time now but to no avail. I have updated my GPS a couple of times and been successful until the last time. I evidently got the SD card in crooked and broke off one of the little pins in the bottom of the card holder. The GPS still works but cannot read the new maps nor anything from the SD card. It has the last update but that is it. I would love to update the maps but need someone that can replace that set of pins inside the unit without buying a whole new unit from mother Honda. BIG BUCKS!

Does anyone know of anywhere that actually does repairs for sure. I have gotten several suggestions of folks the "might" fix them but no one does that I have found. Sierra doesn't, the dealer doesn't and neither does Garmin.

Thanks for any actual suggestions that would work. Stumped.

Unfortunately, it's not an easy fix. You can't just fix the single pin, the entire connector must be replaced - and it is a surface-mount connector, which means the tech doing the replacement needs to have specialized rework equipment to do the job. Virgilmobile (user here) is in that sort of business, he may have knowledge of someone who could take a look at it.

Thanks so much for the hook up. I have spoken to Virgil and looks like I am on the path to getting this fixed. Much appreciated. :D
