Short wife wants to ride trike

Postby bohdan » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:46 pm

Greetings Fellow Wingers, Are there any female riders that are 4'10 or under riding a trike? If so, did you do any major modifications to the bike for the seat and handlebars? Thanks. Wife wants to buy a 2013 trike to match mine. Thanks

My wife who is 5'2" had absolutely no problem riding a GL1800 Champion trike - she had room to spare. She did have a bit of a reach for the handlebars, so you might want to think about risers.

Thanks Wingadmin. It appears that we have to adjust the seat and the risers are part of the deal. Did your wife re-do the seat? Appears that the seat needs the lower back supprot moved forward about 4 inches. The handlebars appears to be the issue. Far reach. Did the risers make a noticeable difference? Thanks for the advice.

The trike wasn't hers, she was just giving it a try. Actually, it was this one: http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/2002_ho ... 147/130150

We bought her a Pacific Coast last fall, and I've spent this winter re-sizing it for her - lowered suspension front and rear, new custom seat from Corbin (support moved forward, narrowed nose), new backrest, extended handlebars (can't do a riser on a PC). I put a riser on her old Virago, and it did make a difference.

Thanks WingAdmin. My wife and I are taking a leap of faith. Bought mathcing 2013 Goldwings. Hers is triked. I did have teh risers put in and once we get it to FLorida, we will adjust the seat accordingly at a local upholsterer.

My BOSS is 5' nothing. She started on the gl1500 and has moved up to the 1800. The only problem for her was the handle bar distance. Short arm don't cha know. Adding the back rest and rotating the handle bars down made it better on the 1500 still not great. The 1800, added MLB risers brought bars closer together and back some also added back rest. She's a happy camper now. Also added mini board and raised shifting lever two teeth for getter shifting and ease of shifting. + Hiway floor board all the way back for another foot position.

Hey Orange Winger 2. That is wonderful to hear. We already procured the bikes and it is the pedal to the metal now. Did the BOSS get the seat re-adjusted? It appears that both the backrest and the seat itself will need to be moved about 4". She got the risers put in. What is a mini board? Do you have a picture of your foot controls? Have a Great Day!!

Didn't need to change the seat other than she wanted sheep skin for her derriere for the softness. Just a note, it's a pain in but when pulling and reinstalling seat and cover over the battery. The back rest was enough to push her forward so she wasn't straining to reach handle bars. For drivers foot pegs using kuryakyn ISO boards # kur-4452 needed to rotate shift and brake lever up 2 notches to make it easy and comfortable to get boot under sifter and make it easier to push brake. For added comfort Kuryakyn hiway boards kur-4056. Need to move them back as far as possible towards the rider.

My ex-wife was a shorty. Had to sit on a pillow and put one behind her and then use both feet to push the clutch pedal in on my '69 Shelby GT500. Aside from risers for the handlebars and maybe some work to the seat to help move her foward some she should have no problem. At least she won't have to worry about putting a foot down at a traffic light out on 41. As I have lived in Venice for the past 30+ years hope to see you around. Sunsets at the South Jetty.

Hey Grape Ape. Good to hear that I didn't invest funds into something that won't be used. Truly want her to ride into the sunsets with me on her own "wing". If you see a 2013 trike (Roadsmith) on the island that is silver and green, that's her ( after the seat adjustments). It was a custom color combo. Do you live on the island? You mentioned the south jetty's.

You should have plenty of great rides together. I live in south Venice. My '06 is the dark cherry color and has just over 85,000 miles on it. I am thinking of triking it next year. Have not made up my mind wich one to go with.

Hey Grape Ape. Triking is so different than two wheelers. Wife is excited. Are you part of a local chapter?
