I suggest a call to Sierra Electronics. They are pretty easy to deal with, and will probably work with you to discover what is wrong. Or they will fix it for you if it is broke, and they will not require the mortgage on your house.

My FM radio gets static when I start to get out of range of the selected radio station especially if running in stereo mode. That's when I switch to the cd player.

Are you charging a cell phone? ANytime my RAZR or RAXR Mxx is near the bike and charging it messes with FM and WX band. I've charged it on and off the bike and when charging my reception is full of static or in the case of WX band completely obilterated. Haven't found solution - its something in the phone itself in my case.

I didn't know this but I had same problem and did not make repairs yet but I believe sierra ele. told me that anttenas wear out and do need to be replaced also they said to check the gounding of the anttena. That trunk stay that goes to the antenna and the bike also is the ground. Also check to make sure the threads where it screws on to the base are clean and not rusty or dirty...Sally

The problem is then that the phone is sending digital hash down the cable, and using the charging cable as an antenna. Get a toroid choke, and wind the charging wire 3-4 times through the choke, as close to the phone as you can get it. Or, get a cable with one already built in, like this one.

That will block the RF out of the phone and should fix that problem.

The problem could also be coming from the charger, in which case you would need the choke on the charger end of the cable.

I had the same thing. Turned out that with my Antenna which is the type that folds towards the windshield, the number of times raising and lowering it, had loosened the screwed on top from the stay. All I did is give it a half turn and bingo, no more static.
