trunk lid rattle/loose fit

Postby doctorofpain » Sun Sep 22, 2013 7:00 pm

Didn't see anything through the search but my 06 trunk lid rattles because it is not a very tight fit. Are there any good fixes for this? Thanks

Yeah I think this is common when I was looking for something on this .I found they have a rubber stopped( snuffer) kit. You drill and put them in the top rim of the trunk. I just went to a local auto parts store and bought four and did it myself. Sally

And when you put the stoppers in, (bumpers) if they do not work, look into wrapping the hinges to keep them from making all the loose rattling sounds. On my bike, that is the problem.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Not mine but I'd see some contact wear points in the trunk of a 2012.
I used a square inch of the fuzzy side of a Velcro strip in the contact areas of the lid.
There were 2 on one side.I covered them and matched to the other side to keep things even.
On my 88,I've noticed several of these wear spots.I cover them (hidden) the same way.
It stops the squeaking and rattling a bunch.

Yup!

Velcro. The fuzzy side only.

Put two strips the length of both sides on my lid. Fits nice and snug now.

It's the cheapest fix for this problem.

i ran a smaller rubber hose through the inside of the rubber gasket on the top lid when i added a luggage rack, it helped some plus gave more support for the weight of rack and luggage. i like the velcro idea, im going to give that a try. 8-)
